The Sounders Discovery Program for U9 and U10 players has announced some key details for the 2018-19 season, including Identification Dates and coaches.
The Sounders Discovery Program, which is organized regionally within greater-Spokane, has scheduled the ID Days for May 21-24 at three locations. The ID Day locations are South Complex (May 21-22), Plantes Ferry (May 22-23) and Dwight Merkel Complex (May 23-24).
SDP will be led by three directors starting in 2018 with Kevin Houston in the North, Manny Faridnia leading the South and the pair of Mike Pellicio and Jason Bellefeuille in the Valley. In addition to coaching teams, they will oversee the other coaches in their group which include Matt Folsom, Shawn McVicker, longtime club coach Dave Ellis and the return to the club of Zane Higgins, a standout in the early years of the Men's First Team in the 90s.
Players in SDP learn curriculum derived directly from the Seattle Sounders, our highest standard curriculum of how we play and develop at all ages and levels of soccer. This sets our club apart from all others in greater Spokane. Spokane Sounders focuses on what is developmentally and age appropriate for each player. Within the U9/U10 age group, our goal is to produce better soccer players so they can enjoy playing the game even more.
Winning is secondary. We want to build soccer players for life - fans of the game for life. Providing an opportunity to learn in a friendly, educated, and enjoyable environment is most important. We want kids to smile, grow, develop their skills, expand their love of the game and have fun!
Players will have the opportunity to attend at least 30 weeks of training in SDP. Every training session is designed by the Spokane Sounders Staff.
Sounders Discovery Program Schedule:
- Two weekly training sessions begin mid-August for the fall season.
- Fall games: From weekend after Labor Day to late October
- Additional indoor training sessions throughout the winter months
- Spring games: From mid-March to early May.
The cost for SDP is $395 for the entire year. This includes referee fees, field rental, club dues and Washington Youth Soccer membership, which provides secondary liability insurance. Uniform cost is not included and price will vary depending on the amount of gear ordered.
Families can register their players starting immediately. For the ID Days, we request arrival at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the session to check in. Cleats and shin guards are required to participate. Balls will be provided. Don't forget to bring water to keep your youngsters hydrated as well!
Play-ups are also welcome in the program.
