As we head into Northwest Cup this weekend at the Polo Grounds, here's a quick snapshot of tournament play elsewhere for Spokane Sounders sides over the past couple weeks.
The majority of the action took place in southern California at the Surf Cup in San Diego. Three sides played in the older, opening weekend of one of the nation's top tournaments and two others took the trek south the following weekend. All five came back with some positive results.
Both girls sides, G01A and G02A, finished with 2-2-0 records on the weekend with the U17 ladies playing in the Super Black bracket and the U16 girls in the Super White. The B01A Boys went 0-2-2 in the BU17 Black bracket.
The following weekend, the B04A and B05A sides finished things up for the Spokane Sounders at Surf Cup with 2-2-0 and 0-2-2 records, respectively, in the BU14 and BU13 Super White brackets.
In other tournament action, the B99B lads captured the Washington Rush Cup's BU19 Silver bracket championship. They were a perfect 3-0-0 in group play and downed PacNW 3-2 in the Final. Also in the tournament, the G02B ladies were perfect in group play at 3-0-0, but fell 4-1 to host Washington Rush in the GU16 Silver championship. They do, however, get a chance at redemption against that same side this weekend at Northwest Cup.
At the Lake Oswego Cup the week prior, a pair of Spokane Sounders sides also came close to capturing championships. The B02s were perfect in their group at 3-0-0 and downed Crossfire Oregon 1-0 in the semifinal before falling 1-0 to PSPL Surf Academy, who were also perfect, in the championship. The B01s were 2-1-0 in their group, but were knocked out in the semis, 2-1, by eventual champion Eugene Timbers FC.
