Spokane SC Shadow is excited to announce that the duo of Gonzaga Women's Soccer assistant coaches Josh Patino and Lexi Brown have joined the staff for the Spokane Sounders. Also joining the club is former Washington East coach Ross Mader.
A former player from 2008-12 at BYU for current Gonzaga Women's head coach Chris Watkins, Patino was reunited with his former coach at Gonzaga after spending time with Utah Celtic FC youth club and the Utah ODP staff in 2013, guiding Celtic to the U16 state championship with a 25-game win streak. He then spent the next three years at Southern Virginia University as head coach of the program, helping guide the Knights to several program records.
Brown's coaching experience prior to Gonzaga includes two years as an assistant coach at Utah Valley University, where she helped lead the Wolverines to the program's most successful season in school history in 2015 with a WAC championship. It was an immediate continuation of her success as a player, which concluded the previous year, helping lead the defense to a program-record nine shutouts and earning WAC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-WAC honors. She finished her career with a UVU record 75 starts and was named All-WAC twice.
Patino and Brown are not entirely new to the club. Patino was a member of the Shadow Men's First Team last season, playing on the NPSL and EPLWA sides. Brown, meanwhile, joined the Women's First Team at the close of the season.
Mader, a local product from Mt Spokane High School, joins the club after spending time with Washington East. He is the fourth coach to join Spokane Sounders from WE, joining Tim Seely, Nick Hamer and Nick Piger.
