The Shadow Women's First Team scored three first half goals in a six minute span at Tiger Stadium in Centralia Saturday evening to grab a commanding lead en route to a 4-0 victory over Twin City Union. The result gave the Shadow a season sweep over the Union having already posted a 9-0 home win in May.
Four different than players scored in the contest, but once again it was striker Megan Lindsay (pictured above) that left a significant mark on the scoresheet with a goal and two assists. She and Jael Hagerott in midfield were key in leading a squad that had a much younger composition for the trip.
The hosts gave great effort in the early stages of the contest, limiting Spokane's possession in the offensive end and creating some anxious moments, but the Shadow back line and starting keeper kept the contest scoreless.
Fourteen minutes in it was left back Maia Angell (pictured right) that changed everything. Hagerott played a brilliant ball out of midfield that sprung Angell up the left all alone. The speedy back drove to goal and beat the keeper for the opening tally. From there, things just kept clicking for the attack as the Shadow presented continual pressure on the host defense.
Three minutes later Lindsay scored her goal on a fantastic individual play, intercepting a short pass between defenders about 40 yards out and driving to goal to double the lead with an easy finish.
In the 20th Lindsay turned provider when she delivered the ball from out wide into the middle of the box to Riley Martinson. Martinson's initial attempt was interrupted by a defender, but she quickly reset and fired it past the keeper.
The second half proved to be more even between the two sides as fatigue began to set in for the high-paced affair. Both had chances including one foe Angell that went off the left post in the 68th, but the lone goal came with two minutes left when a ball in from Lindsey on the right was toe-poked in by Tasha Luu at the near post.
