Shadow host unbeaten South Sound Saturday at SFCC

Top two from 2014 square off seven days after stalemate in Tacoma

The reigning Evergreen Premier League champion Spokane Shadow are back home after a two-game trip in which they earned four points from a draw and victory on the west side last weekend. They face South Sound FC, whom they played to a scoreless draw with last Saturday in their first meeting since edging the Shock for the inaugural championship by a point on the last day of the season last July. Kickoff at Spokane Falls CC Stadium is 7:00 pm.

The Shadow come into the match with a three-game shutout streak behind the goalkeeping of Jeff Srock and Tony Watters. Srock blanked Yakima two weeks ago and Watters played all but seven minutes in two clean sheets on the road last week. Spokane is the only team in EPLWA’s early two-year history to register three consecutive shutouts, and have accomplished the feat now once in each season.

In addition to the two keepers, defenders Matt Beaulaurier (pictured), Zach Hudson, Brady Ulen, Nick Ulowetz and Spencer Wolfe have played a key role in the team’s recent run of good defensive form.

After the scoreless draw against South Sound on Saturday in which Watters and the Shock’s Chris Kintz battled to the league’s first-ever scoreless match, the Shadow posted a 3-0 victory against Olympic Force. Chance Bukoski, Anthony Mota and second-year Shadow striker Karl Muelheims each netted their first-ever goals for the team.

About the Opposition: South Sound Shock

Currently, the Shock are one of two unbeaten teams left in the league at 5-0-2, trailing 7-0-0 Vancouver by four points. In their first meeting last year (May 18), South Sound took the initial lead on a goal from Danny Minetti at the half-hour mark, but Spokane tied it up with six minutes left on a goal from Nick Hamer. In Spokane (June 21), the Shadow snared a narrow 1-0 win on a goal from Graison Le with eight minutes remaining. Andrew Glaeser posted the shutout.

Coming Up – Home Game – June 20

FIRST RESPONDERS NIGHT: The upcoming game next Saturday will feature the Shadow playing host to Bellingham United, which currently sits in last place in the league with zero points (0-7-0) – All members of the area fire and police departments get in free with their work ID upon entry.
