SPOKANE SHADOW NEWS RELEASE -- Friday, May 2, 2014
The Spokane Shadow announced the official 18-player game day roster Friday in advance of the team’s Season Opener in the Evergreen Premier League Saturday evening at the newly-renovated Spokane Falls CC Stadium. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
Newly-announced players among the list are the graduating trio out of Gonzaga led by Spokane’s Nicholas Hamer (Mead HS), who was honored as the WCC Player of the Year this past season for the Zags, who were nationally-ranked in the Top 25 for much of the season. He is joined by Greg Carter and Josh Phillips. The three bring the Bulldog contingent on the squad to nine, including the five underclassmen (as per NCAA rules) and former Zag Pete Peterson, who has returned to Spokane.
Other new names to the list are Zane Meehan, the son of Gonzaga University assistant coach Paul Meehan, and Joe Scott, a product of Cheney HS that is returning home from Concordia University.

About the Opposition: Bellingham United
The majority of the BUFC squad hails from Western Washington University, a DII NCAA program. The Hammers kicked off their campaign last week with a 2-0 win at home versus the Vancouver Victory. Oscar Jiminez scored the opening goal in the 43rd minute and Andrew Weishaar tallied the second on the hour mark. Goalkeeper Leo Cohen stopped a penalty for the shutout. None of the three are on the team’s roster for the trip to Spokane.
