Opening weekend in the Big Sky Conference was a fruitful outing for Shadow alumni as Eastern Washington, Idaho and Montana picked up victories. Meanwhile, in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, freshman JD Hauenstein was a contributor in MSU-Billings good start to their league campaign.

Eastern Washington led the way with two victories thanks to junior Chloe Williams, who used a goal in each game to tie the program's all-time goals tally. She provided the opening goal in the 3-0 victory against Idaho State on Friday and the 2-1 overtime winner on a penalty against Idaho after being tripped up in the box. The penalty also tied her atop the game-winning goals list at nine. Eastern took the initial lead in the match Sunday against Idaho thanks to an assist from Laci Rennaker, who also stood out defensively on the day.

Alyssa Lloyd started Sunday's contest against EWU and Friday's in a 4-1 victory at Montana where Taryn Miller also scored the lone goal for the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies also got a goal on the weekend from Ashlee Pedersen, who scored the second in a 2-0 win against Idaho State Sunday.

In other Division I action, Jess Kennedy set up the 1-0 overtime winner for Portland in a victory against UC-Irvine in their final non-conference game before the WCC begins league play.

McKenna Stocker helped Concordia post a 3-0 win over Northwest Nazarene with an assist and great defensive performance. Concordia, also featuring Kasey Ames, Martha Heaps, Emma Chappell and Michaela Prothe with significant playing time, finished its first two games in GNAC play without allowing a goal, playing to a scoreless draw at MSU-Billings in the second match.

On the men's side of the GNAC, JD Hauenstein scored in two games for MSU-Billings, tallying the final goals in a 6-0 non-league win against Mary and a 3-0 win at Northwest Nazarene. He also created the key equalizer at the end of a 3-3 draw at Concordia by beating three defenders en route to the box before being taken down for a penalty. Elsewhere in the league Brady Ulen scored the lone goal for Western Washington in a 2-1 loss at Saint Martin's.

In the Northwest Conference, the Whitworth women posted a 2-1 home opening win against Whitman and downed Willamette 2-0 with Katie Bischoff and goalkeeper Sienna Tanner leading the Pirates.

The Pirate men faced the tough trip to face fellow powerhouses Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran on the weekend. Down two against the Loggers, Drew Williams and Shadow Men's First Team player Eric Espinoza scored the two goals for Whitworth to earn a draw in the first match. Shadow MFT player Moi Diaz scored in the second match, but the Lutes prevailed 3-2 in overtime.

Close to home in the NWAC, the Bigfoot women rolled to a 12-2 win at Blue Mountain thanks, in part, to a pair of goals from Maddy Boyd and topped Treasure Valley 3-2 with the game-winner from Boyd. The Sasquatch men blanked rival North Idaho 2-0 and Treasure Valley 1-0 thanks to shutouts from Shadow Men's First Team keepers Raymond Ruano and Kevin Alvarez.

Also of note...

Annie Shellerud scored for Northwest University in a 2-0 victory against Evergreen State... Ben Thompson started both 1-0 shutout wins for Redlands (DIII) against La Verne and Chapman... Freshman Ryan Rydeen got her first start in goal for Minnesota State (DII) and made three saves in a 4-0 road shutout at Sioux Falls...
