Shadow First Teams head west on two-game trips
Women’s First Team seek two points to clinch Inaugural NWPL title

Spokane Shadow News Release

The Spokane Shadow First Teams head to the west side of the state this weekend for a pair of two-game road trips. Both teams will face the Seattle Stars on Saturday – at two different venues – before they split up for their matches Sunday as the Women’s First Team visits Fuerza FC in Marysville and the Men’s First Team travels to Bellingham to face one of their fellow title contenders.

The teams are returning to action after a healthy break. The Shadow WFT is back in NWPL action after two weeks off. And with just three weeks left in the seasons, championship races are tightening up for the Northwest Premier League and Evergreen Premier League.

During the layoff, the team inched closer to wrapping up the league title courtesy of South Sound (6-0-5, 23 points) dropping points in games that finished in draws. The Spokane ladies (8-1-0, 24 points) only need two points in their final three games (or another Shock tie) to clinch the inaugural NWPL crown.

Meanwhile, the Shadow MFT has been idle for three weeks and finds itself in a challenging scenario in the bid to capture a third consecutive EPLWA title. Spokane (5-3-1, 16 points) and Sunday’s opponent Bellingham (6-3-1, 19 points) are both attempting to chase down the unbeaten Vancouver Victory (8-0-2, 26 points), who only need six points to clinch in their final four games.

SATURDAY

Shadow WFT vs Seattle Stars – Starfire Sports Complex (Tukwila)  – 2:00

In their first-ever meeting five weeks ago, Spokane dominated the contest at home for a 9-1 victory. Five different players scored in the match. Since then, the Shadow posted a 7-2 home win against Fuerza and a 4-0 road victory against Twin City Union. The Stars are one of the teams to ding South Sound’s efforts to catch Spokane, playing them to a scoreless draw on the road a week after their game in Spokane. They also defeated Fuerza 4-2. They are currently fifth at 2-3-4

Shadow MFT vs Seattle Stars – French Stadium (Kent)  – 7:00

The Shadow head into the game with a 3-1 home victory over the Stars just over a month ago. Spokane is unbeaten against the Stars with a 4-0-1 record over the course of three seasons. Seattle comes into the match having played the other two title contenders in their previous two outings, stunning visiting Bellingham 4-2 and allowing the league leaders to come away winners with a rally for a 2-1 win.  The Stars are currently fifth in the table at 3-5-2.

SUNDAY

Shadow MFT vs Bellingham United – Civic Stadium (Bellingham)  – 3:00

Spokane will be looking to make up for a 4-1 home loss at the hands of the Hammers in their last outing before the three-week break. It had been the first loss to Bellingham since their 2-1 home defeat in their inaugural EPLWA game in 2014, making them 3-2-0 against the Hammers all-time. Since starting the season 4-1-0, Bellingham has seen their title chances slip steadily away with a 2-2-1 run over the last five outings. Since the win in Spokane four weeks ago, Bellingham lost at Seattle Stars 4-2, but rebounded for a 2-0 home win over South Sound that eliminated the Shock from the title race.

Shadow WFT vs Fuerza FC – Quil Ceda Stadium (Marysville)  – 5:00

Spokane controlled their first-ever contest against Fuerza for a 7-2 home win a month ago. Six different players scored in the match for the Shadow. After that outing, Fuerza lost 4-2 to Seattle but delivered a blow to South Sound’s title hopes with a 2-2 draw at home last weekend. They are sixth in the league at 2-5-2.

Looking Further Ahead

The Shadow MFT embarks on their final road trip of the campaign, visiting the Vancouver Victory Saturday and Wenatchee FC Sunday while the WFT is idle. Both teams return to action in their league finales at home Saturday, July 30 at SFCC against South Sound.
