Shadow First Teams host Seattle Stars Saturday at SFCC
Ladies enter weekend as NWPL leaders, Men second in EPLWA

Shadow News Release - June 10, 2016

The Spokane Shadow First Teams face the Seattle Stars for the first time this season when they host a doubleheader of Northwest Premier League and Evergreen Premier League contests Saturday at Spokane Falls CC Stadium. The ladies host the Stars at 4:00 pm in NWPL action while the two EPLWA sides collide at 6:30. Tickets are $10 for Adults, $7 for Children 15 and under.

Shadow WFT vs Seattle Stars  – 4:00

Heading into their first-ever meeting, the Stars and Shadow are in two separate races. With Spokane (5-1-0) and South Sound (4-0-2) having separated themselves from the pack early on in what looks to be a two-team race for the title, the Stars are looking to build on a two-game unbeaten streak and grab control of the third spot in the table. The Stars are coming off their first-ever NWPL victory. They topped visiting Twin City 2-1 last week after earning their third draw of the season the week before at Olympic, 1-1.

The Shadow women have dominated the last two games at home, blanking Yakima and Olympic by a combined 14-0 scoreline.

Three Shadow players have goal totals equal to or greater than the bottom four teams in the league. Megan Lindsay leads the league with 10, Sarah Cox is second at eight and Tiara Pittman-Thomas is third with six. Karley Baggerly and Tasha Luu’s three goals is matched by only one other player in the league.

Meanwhile, the goalkeeping pool – a mix of several college players and Shadow developmental players - has not allowed a goal at home through three contests.

Shadow MFT vs Seattle Stars – 6:30

The Shadow MFT dominated the season series the first year with a 4-1 road win and an 11-0 drubbing at SFCC, but the Stars proved to be a tricky opponent in their first meeting last season, playing to a 1-1 draw in Spokane. The Stars, though, could not stop the surging Shadow late in the season though, falling on their home field 4-1. Kazuki Tateishi, Jonny Cortez and Anthony Mota scored in the contest with JD Hauenstein providing a pair of assists.

The Stars come into the match on the heels of a 3-1 loss at league-leading Vancouver last weekend after posting a 3-3 draw at Olympic the week before for just their second point of the season for a side that is currently 0-3-2.

Looking Further Ahead

The Shadow has one more doubleheader left in the lengthy homestand Next Saturday the WFT plays host to Fuerza FC at 4:00 pm and the  MFT welcomes Bellingham United at 6:30 pm. Both games are at Spokane Falls CC Stadium. Following that doubleheader, the First Teams will be spending over a month on the road before their home and league finale July 30 at SFCC.
