Send-off doubleheader Saturday at SFCC for Shadow First Teams
Final home games for league leaders until July 30 season finales

In what will be the last home games at Spokane Falls CC Stadium for over a month until the season finales on July 30, the league-leading Shadow Women’s First Team hosts Fuerza FC at 4:00 pm in NWPL action while the two-time EPLWA champion and current co-league leading Shadow Men’s First Team plays host to Bellingham United in the second half of the doubleheader at 6:30.

On Saturday, the Spokane Shadow First Teams will be celebrating Christmas in June for their doubleheader at Spokane Falls CC Stadium, requesting its fans to donate to Toys for Tots at the games. Tickets are regularly $10 for Adults, $7 for Children 15 and under, but fans that bring a new toy to the match will get in for half price ($5 for Adults, $3 for Children 15 and under).

Shadow WFT vs Fuerza FC  – 4:00

The Shadow ladies look to close out the month with a fourth consecutive victory before hitting the road for three matches before their season finale at SFCC July 30.  Perfect at home with a 4-0-0 record, the Shadow WFT has allowed just one goal while outscoring the opposition by 31 goals.

League-leading scorer Megan Lindsay was honored as the Player of the Week for her four-goal performance last Saturday in a 9-1 win against Seattle. It brought her personal tally for the campaign to 14 goals, which is more than each other team total in the league except for South Sound’s 15. Sarah Cox and Tiara Pittman-Thomas are also nearly to double-digits in goals with nine and eight, respectively.

Fuerza, a member of the WPSL a year ago, comes into the match off the heels of a 3-0 victory at Olympic last Saturday that snapped a three-game losing streak. The result put them in third place in the league at 2-3-1. Saturday’s match will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides in the Northwest Premier League.

Shadow MFT vs Bellingham United – 6:30

The Shadow MFT rebounded from the previous weekend’s loss to Wenatchee with a 3-1 victory against Seattle Stars. Combined with other results on the weekend, it allowed the Shadow to move into a tie for first in points (5-2-1) with Vancouver (5-0-1).

Zach Hamer and Fernando Alvarez each scored their fourth goals of the season in the match, moving one back of the three-way tie for the league lead. Starting goalkeeper Tony Watters, meanwhile, remains tied for the league lead in shutouts with two.

Bellingham comes into the match after a two-game weekend last week in which they had vastly different results. Sitting in third and looking to stay in the hunt for the title, they opened things up with a damaging 6-2 loss on the road at Olympic before returning home to host a fresh, league-leading Vancouver Victory squad. The second contest, however, proved a positive more for the Shadow than either side as the two played to a 1-1 draw. It was the first points Vancouver had dropped in six games and opened the door for the Shadow to make up ground, and put the two-time champs in a tie for first at the close of the weekend.

Historically, the Shadow have not lost to Bellingham since their EPLWA debut on May 3, 2014 at SFCC, a 2-1 defeat. They avenged that loss with a 2-0 win at Bellingham later that season and then swept the season series a year ago with a 4-1 home win and a 2-0 road victory that clinched the league title with a game remaining.

Looking Further Ahead

The Shadow WFT will be on the road the following week for a trip to Twin City and then both teams are idle for two weeks and take road trips before returning home for the season finale July 30.
