Shadow take first EPLWA road trip this weekend
Club will debut new red kit Saturday vs WestSound; face league-leading South Sound Sunday

SPOKANE SHADOW NEWS RELEASE  --  Friday, May 16, 2014

The Spokane Shadow depart for their first road trip in the debut Evergreen Premier League campaign, visiting WestSound FC in Bremerton on Saturday evening at Silverdale Stadium (6:00 pm) and South Sound FC on Sunday afternoon (2:00 pm) at Harry Lang Stadium in Tacoma.

About the Opposition: WestSound FC

The EPLWA side, an extension of the youth club by the same name, comes into the match having posted a surprising 1-0 road victory over previously unbeaten Bellingham United, the side that was able to get past Spokane 2-1 in the Shadow season opener. The Hammers went into the match 3-0-0, but were unable to find the back of the net, allowing WestSound, winless in its first two games, to claim the victory with their first goal of the season in the 89th minute of the contest courtesy of Graham Davidson. In previous matches, WestSound lost its season opener, 2-0, at versus South Sound and was blanked in Vancouver 4-0. The team was first formed a year ago, playing a few friendlies.

The majority of the players on the roster have played at Olympic College (NWAACC) with a few having experience at Pacific Lutheran (DIII) and MSU-Billings (DII)

About the Opposition: South Sound FC

At 3-0-0, the Shock come into the game as the only remaining unbeaten side in the league. They won 2-0 at WestSound in the opener; posted a 2-1 win at Yakima the following week; and won their home opener last weekend, 2-1, against Wenatchee. Six different players have accounted for all of the Shock goals, but Daniel Gray has been the biggest contributor on the stat line. He provided the winner at Yakima and set up both goals, one off a corner, in the victory last weekend. The other five goal scorers are Frankie Lopez, Vincent McCluskey, Luke Sandblom and Pico Rubio.

The EPLWA club has been around competitively as a men’s side for several years, launching in 2011. It is a year-round squad with the team competing indoors in the PASL in addition to previously competing in the USASA U23 tournament in which they finished third nationally in 2013. Located in Tacoma, the squad has a player pool representing a wide variety of area schools ranging from the University of Washington and Seattle University to a number of NWAACC schools.

Heading West

The Shadow roster will again feature some new faces potentially making their first appearances with the team. On the list of 20 that have not played thus far are Karl Muelheims, Chris Rothrock, Colin Shockman, and Juan Valderrama along with a pair of Seattle-based guest players that will join the team on the west side. All three Shadow goal scorers - Nick Hamer, Mikey Ramos and Devin Leon - are among the players heading to the Puget Sound for the weekend.

On Saturday, the team will debut the club's new Nike red uniform. It wore the navy design, which will be used Sunday, for the first two home contests this season.
